North Eastern Riverine Loop
A flat, breezy waterway loop through Punggol and Sengkang, one of the best easy rides in Singapore.
A bumboat ride to old Singapore: kampong dirt roads, quarry lookouts and the Chek Jawa wetlands by bicycle.
Ten minutes on a bumboat from Changi Point drops you fifty years back in time. Pulau Ubin’s network of dirt roads and crumbling tarmac rolls past stilt kampong houses, durian orchards and flooded granite quarries, and cycling is simply how you get around, since the island has almost no cars.
A comfortable loop takes in the viewpoints above Pekan Quarry, the western trails near Ketam, and an out-and-back east to Chek Jawa, where you park the bike and walk the boardwalk over the tidal flats. Bring your own bike on the boat or rent one of the island’s famously well-worn steeds at the jetty village.

Open Route in Google Maps needs nothing extra. It opens the Maps app (or website) with the whole route already plotted as pins, ready to cycle. The GPX download is useful if you navigate with an app like Komoot or Strava, or a Garmin/Wahoo bike computer. On longer routes Google may smooth a corner or two, since it draws its own path between the pins; the map below shows our fuller route line.

Dashed line shows the approximate route corridor; the marker is the start point at Pulau Ubin Jetty (bumboat from Changi Point).
